My New Years resolution.. To Blog more?? *lol*

Oh Dear Oh Dear it seems I have not made a post since HALLOWEEN? Now I already know I am surely not the most dedicated blogger but really I know I can do better than that. *Shakes head*
Well a big Hello to you all. I hope each and everyone of you had a delightful holiday season. I had a rather good one, quiet but nice.
I have still been doing my usual thrifting and found a few things I fell in love with.
One being a faux fur coat from value village.
The price tag: $10.00
Color: Off white with black trim around the neck and bottom.
It is in good condition and I was suprised they had not had it tagged at at least $30.00.

I also got a cute light brown faux fur hat for $3.00 I have yet to wear it out but hope I make a few times in this next month to leave the house with it before we get into spring.

I really love the look of faux fur and hope I collect up a few more gorgeous pieces by next fall so that I can wear it here and there all throughout Fall & Winter 2011
No rush though I want to fully enjoy my spring and summer! haha

Loverly vintage curtains & train case

I bought these curtains for a total of $3.00 at a local thrift. They don't have a place yet I am planning on storing them until I move somewhere else.
I do imagine them to be 50's but I could be wrong I am surely no curtain expert.

So if you have an idea let me know.

I love the print and color on the curtains.. the backs are white with a rubberish feeling. The one set is long and is how it is supposed to be. The second set had been cut shorter. They did a good cutting job but never sewed up the bottom so at some point I will have to do that.

I picked up this Train case on Saturday. I spotted it up high amongst tons of other suitcases and bags. I asked my guy to get it down for me which cause a landslide of things to come down with it. *lol* The sticker on the case said $2.00 (There was no way I was leaving it for that price.) So my guy leaves me for a few min to go try on a pair of pants. I had a basket with clothes in it next to me in the skirt and sweater isle, the next thing I see is some lady holding my case!!! I am sort of a slightly shy person until I get to know people and I am also a rather *quiet* thrift shopper. But when I saw a lady with my case I thought (OH NO)

And just blurted out (EXCUSE me that's my stuff!!) Now I didn't say it mean or yell but I found it funny after it had been said. I was rather loud about it worried she would walk off with my find. She was very nice and said "Oh I am sorry" (And put it back down on top of my clothes basket). So when the Husband got back I told him to take it with him and not let it leave his site. Apparently a few min later in the book section a lady asked if the case was his.

He told her yes.. and then she asked (Can I look at it?) LOL

What on earth.. I think he was sort of shocked and said well I guess. So then this other random lady starts opening the case looking around and all and then says. "Oh it's in great shape thank you" and walks away.

Normally I like to keep all vintage intact and original. But this case has quite a few marks inside. I was thinking of re-doing the inside a bit. I do not wanna gut the thing I plan to keep most of it the way it is. But I thought it would be cute to get some leopard fabric and cover over the existing inside. I don't plan on ever getting rid of it so I mean the case is now stuck with me for life. I mars well make enjoyable to my eyes.

I will leave you with a silly picture I took yesterday when I was out on a bike ride. I always pass this one spot and think it would be a lovely place for a pic. So I put on my kitty hoodie and climbed in a tree when I got there.

Bicycling with a deer

Today I decided to go out on Casper again and enjoy the Autumn air. I have had Casper less than 2 weeks and have already rode it quite alot.
Today we drove over crispy leaves and rode while the sun started to set.

But the whole point of this post is that I got totally freaked out near the end of my ride. I had been looking at the ground "Who knows why" and when I looked up I realized there was a deer in front of my just feet away. I yelled "OH MY GOD" and once passed it. "HOLY CRAP".

Cute cute cute cute cute

Then deerie walked down the hill and disappeared. So I continued on with my lovely ride.

Me celebrating that the deer didn't charge me and steal my bike!
*Have a lovely weekend.*

Kitchen Table *Update*

In my last post I wrote about hoping a kitchen table I spotted on a Saturday would still be there at opening on Monday. Well it was to my delight!!!
So I purchased the table and on the way home was hungry so the Husband and I stopped in at Subway. While he was inside I had a odd thought. We usually get our sandwiches to go and take them over to a nice park by our house and eat them there. Well my thought was.. WOULDN'T it be odd if we took the table out and carried it in front of a bench and had a REAL subway picnic?!

So when he got in the vehicle I told him my thought.. he replied "Lets do it"
Oh jeaz then I was not too SURE... I mean what if alot of people passed by or someone asked what we were doing. Well it was too late, we got to the park then parked. The Husband grabbed the table carried it across the road and down a hill to a cement park bench. HAHAHA it looked sooo funny I am sure.
The most embarrassing moment was when I noticed two joggers were headed our way. They STARED and I tried not even to make eye contact. I knew if I did I would turn 3 shades redder than I already was. Then I heard "What in the hell is a kitchen table doing there?!" Now the good thing about this situation is that this table will now always have a story with us. The time we ever ate with it was in the middle of a busy park. *lol*
The pattern on the table is Starbursts. I think it is just so darn cute.

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend, mine was alright I suppose. We celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving, and the part I am not so excited about is I probably gained like 4 pounds.

Casper the bicycle

I went thrifting on Oct. 1 I found some little vintage finds here and there. At my last stop I found the bike I have named Casper.
I have been looking for a vintage bike. (ALL SPRING & SUMMER) No luck whatsoever.. they were all too expensive for my liking. A few weeks back I walked into a thrift to see a lovely red bicycle.. My excitement skyrocketed as I ran over.. only to find a SOLD sign on the seat, (BOO) I was so sad.
Well when I first spotted Casper my heart fluttered and then I thought.. NOPE DON'T GET EXCITED.. IT IS PROBABLY SOLD! Well turns out it wasn't. I purchased Casper for $20.00 I came to find out had I went there a day later it would have been gone. Apparently the employees there have to wait 1 business day before they can buy anything that comes in. Two of them wanted the bike. Best part is I bought it in the last 20 minutes before they closed.
If your wondering about the name I figured since it's white and purchased in October Casper was a fitting name. I was originally looking for a bike a few years older but for now this is great and if I do ever find one.. well then Casper will have a sibling. *lol*

P.s. On Saturday I spotted a GORGEOUS Formica kitchen table. It's the glittery kind with a star burst design. The store was closing and I could not make up my mind whether to purchase or not. I am going back tomorrow morning to see if it's still there. *Oh I hope I hope I hope* I lost out on the two previous ones I have came across. One was 20$ (Whoever bought that got a HELLUVA deal)
The other 30$ but it had a bit of minor damage so I kind of let it pass. This one I am looking at is 50$ That is kinda steep for me to pay atm but I have been dreaming of finding the perfect one and HELL I LOVE star bursts.. imagine staring at them whilst eating spaghetti. ;)

I will update you soon.

A month? OH DEAR!

Hello there all... It looks as though I have not made a blog post in a month and a day. *Is shocked* Well I guess I shall update you on my September.

September is my favorite month of the year. On the 16 we celebrated my Boxer Jersey's 8th Birthday.
Jersey is my best little fur bud, I got him when he was 3 months. I wanted a boxer OH SO BAD and dang I had waited a long time to be able to have one. So getting him was one of the happiest days of my life. I picked him up 2 hrs from where I live and he rode on my lap the whole way home. And I bet if he was still allowed he would try it still to this day. Jersey is always squishing me has to lay right next to me sometimes half on me.. He is my 60 pound lap dog.

On the 24 it was my Birthday.. I am now a year older and hopefully a little wiser but I am not too sure. *hehaha* On my b day what do you think I wanted to do?
THRIFT SHOP of course and it is exactly what I did. I found this vase, for a grand total of 75 cents

Here is two warm fuzzy knit hats I came across. I got them for next to nothing and I know I will get a ton of use outta them.

I also found two awsome handbags and a cute floral print hoodie (Not pictured) I had a Spaghetti dinner (Spaghetti is a top fave on my food list.) And dairy Queen ice cream cake to celebrate. Celebrate my Birthday not my purchases. *wink* (I also have a love for frogs if you were wondering about the cake.)
The leaves are changing here some tree's are still greener than green. And some are a gorgeous bright shade of yellow. I really enjoyed my September and I hope you did also. I hope this Fallish weather continues for a long while I am surely not ready for snow just yet.

Faux fur find $1.00 "WOOhh"

I am sure the title expresses my excitement on this find.

The night before I found this coat I saw a video clip on youtube of a girl wearing a vintage fur coat. Then it dawned on me.. "Hmm that is something I do not own yet" Before I went to bed I told my guy "I want a faux fur coat" He looked at me and laughed! I swear he thought I was joking! "I WASN'T"
I told him in the morning I wanted to go to a second hand store that is near our house. Most are not open on Sunday's but this one is and they have a weekly $1.00 tag sale day. In all honesty unless you go at opening most of the stuff is VERY picked over and you may only end up with one item or none.

Well we went later in the afternoon, I looked over most of the store and then remembered what my purpose was for going there was. So I headed over to the coats browsed through one full line .. nothing.. walked to the other side saw barely any (Red tag) items.. Then I see a chocolate brown coat and OoHHh it was FURRY! Now I though there is NO WAY that is going to have a red tag. IT DID and I was super surprised and oh so excited. So I wanted to share with you this little fuzzy thing.

So I bet you can't guess what else I am gonna start scouring stores for now??
More fuzzy coats.. Oh and I seen some real cute faux hats that will match this one on Etsy I plan on finding one so when the leaves fall I will have something to protect my head.

Sew in love with Elna

A couple years back I started thinking I wanted a vintage sewing machine. Being that green is my favorite color I wondered if such thing existed. I walked over to the computer and typed into the google search bar (Vintage green sewing machine) A few photos of green machines showed up but the one that caught my eye was ELNA. I thought about Elna every so often and always came to the conclusion maybe I will come across one............ in like 20 years.
About a month or so AGAIN I thought about the green wonder that is Elna I figured if I was ever gonna get a vintage machine, I better start sewing on my modern one. So that is just what I started to do. I have made a few fun things one being a owl pillow.

Last weekend I had to take a trip to a city 2 hrs from where I reside to visit the in laws. I told my guy that before we headed home I would like to stop in at the value village there and take a walk thru. (Psstt yeah right I wanted TO BUY SOMETHING!!) As we looked round I spotted something green and in the shape of a sewing machine. I thought to myself.. (Could it be...) My mind seriously told me NO! there is no way that that thing over there will be a Elna... WELL IT WAS! I just left without even telling my guy where I was headed my eyes were on that green thing and I needed to get a closer look. Once it was right in front of me I was amazed at the shape it was in. Very little scratches or marks still in it's green case. (Ahhh it was beautiful.)
My Guy came over and looked over it with me, he knew I wanted it. We seen the power cord and some other pieces but then he asked.. "WHERE IS THE PEDAL? is something missing?" Well then he had me second guessing it too. I am not no expert on sewing machines by any means.. we came to the conclusion to leave it. I was sad.. I finally found a Elna and I was gonna leave it behind. We traveled home did not make it back till about 11:30 p.m. I was tired and went to sleep. It the morning I hopped on google and started researching about Elna. Nope she doesn't come with a pedal she comes with a knee bar.. Ohhh I thought so that's what that metal contraption was for. So then I start searching how much they are to buy and I found Elna's anywhere between $180.00 - $300.00. I was really mad at myself then I just wished teleportation existed so I could get back there asap and buy her. I told my guy about all the info I had taken in. I showed him ones up for sale and the prices they go for and pouted. (Yes I am a total brat) I guess he thought it over because next thing I knew he was calling the store. Asked the man if it was still there. (OH I HEARD A YES!!) My excitement level rised a bit.
My guy put Elna on hold and before I knew it we were back on the road. Making the exact same trip we had taken the day before.. all for a green metal sewing machine that had probably not been used in decades. We got to the store and then they had troubles locating Elna. We told them it was supposed to be on hold.. FINALLY they found her in a pile of other stuff behind the tills. THANK GOD!! or I would have been livid! When we got home we plugged her in to test things out.
She was running sluggish. "OH DEAR" I thought.. hmmm maybe this was not the best idea. I googled what was going on and read it could just need to be cleaned. So we cleaned Elna and BOY did she has some lint inside her.. I bet you it was vintage lint so that makes it special, then we oiled her.. who knows when that machine had it's last oiling.

Well guess what?? After all that Elna ran amazing her stitches are beautiful and I was sooo excited and glad we made that trip back to get her. Her sticker price was $20.00 I bet they thought she was on her last legs. Now it did cost a bit in gas to go get her but it sure beats what I would get charged for shipping with a online purchase. So as you can tell by this story if you have even made it through reading it all is that I am SEWWW happy I got my Elna 18 years before I thought I would find one.

She is stamped January 15 1957 that's the day she left the production line. Who knows what she's made or who has made what with her, where she has been, how many fingers she has poked, where she has been stored or the conversations she has overheard. I am just excited shes mine now and I don't plan on getting rid of her ever.

Next week I am gonna start my first project with her, a crazy quilt! I have never made a quilt before so this should prove to be interesting. I have been collecting up vintage material and scraps for this and I am just hoping all goes well. I can't see it going that horrible because now I have my Elna.
