The Orange Bridge

Hello Everyone! My gosh I have been silent since before Christmas, so I will give you a brief update.
p.s. This is the result of yet another 8 hours or so of snow flurries
(The only pic I have of Christmas Eve)

My Christmas Eve was the worst probably in my life. I got the flu early in the morning and spent the whole day in bed minus like an hour or so where I "tried to watch t.v. or spend time with family"
It was a weird flu! For some reason whenever I tried to watch t.v. I just felt worse and had to go back to bed.
(I will admit I even cried at a point thinking I might MISS CHRISTMAS!!!!)
But the Mr. went and got me some Buckley's cold and flu... and on Christmas morning I was feeling about 90% So thank God for that. Some other people told stories of feeling like crap for days so I guess I kind of lucked out.... a bit.... somehow.... okay well maybe it would have been better to not have got the flu at all.
THE ONLY plus side.... is I didn't intake any calories that day so I had lots to spare for Christmas and Chinese food.
*wink*
I did miss my traditional Chinese Christmas Eve buffet dinner. But we made up for it on December 26. So instead of wearing a red Christmas dress and get all dolled up. (I actually went in sweatpants a tshirt and a wool sweater.) *Ahhhh such is life*
Just goes to show you can't plan everything.
This was what I wore out today shopping. The tank top is a cute 60s tent style found at a thrift for $1. These pics were taken in a local park. This spot is the little "Japanese" garden area.
 Mr. and I

How I spent my weekend

On Friday I FINALLY got to go do some shopping after a WHOLE week. (Gosh that seemed like a long time to not step into a thrift store.)
But before I went to any second hand shops the Mr. wanted to take me to look for my Valentines gift. On my wish list was a pair of cowboy / girl boots.

Now we were really just going there to look and find out my size. But there was a awesome sale and well... you know how it goes. One box left in my size and the color I liked best so we were not going to leave without them.

The first time they set out on pavement

My Lobster shirt which I told you all about and then didn't show a pic of until now. I wore it out shopping on Friday.

And it's from Mexico so I think Dora would love it too!

Isn't he a classy lobster?? Ray bans and a white suit jacket complete with a corsage.

A Saturday me

I found the owl necklace just minutes before for $3 in a hospice thrift shop.
That makes owl necklace count up to 3 now.

Dinner on Saturday night.

We saw the sign for this new place in the beginning of Dec and they were just setting up the place. The windows were all covered up and the only giveaway of what it was to be was the sign above the business that said "Ramen coming soon" My Mr. has a thing for Japanese stuff and I don't mind it myself either.

So when I pointed out the sign he became OBSESSED with waiting for the shops opening. (Sometimes we would even drive to the opposite side of town where it was just to see if they had opened yet.) *lol* He would also take the route passed there anytime we were even in the vicinity of the place.

I told him by mid January that I had a feeling they would be opening in the beginning of Feb and wouldn't you know it?! I was right.

Everyone in the restaurant at the time we were there was Asian. (We have a University here that has alot of International students.) We sort of looked like the odd ones out... SO I MADE SURE to try and use my chopsticks like a professional so I fit in better. I only had one incidence where I almost lost control of my noodles. *heh*

Here I am with my schmancy chopsticks and a red Buddha laughing at me.

The Ramen was Delicious and I know I will be going there alot from now on.

The owner was a really nice Japanese guy who was super friendly. I will have to take a pic of the interior next time I am there. There is 21 stools and the seating is in rows. So if you sit at a table complete strangers can sit across from you. *hehe* Something I am not used to at all. But in Japan that's how they do it.

The sign outside the shop. I am pointing to the one I ordered.

Apparently Jersey had a rough weekend so he has spent his time lounging like some spoiled celebrity dog.

So how was your weekend? I would like to know!

Coloring hair (hallabaloo)

*Oh and look.. I got a free gift*

Don't you love free gifts? I do I sometimes buy and item.. just cause I get another for free. *heh*

My Dye Story

Am I the only one who thinks this? I am almost certain... I am not *hopefully*.

I started dyeing my hair when I was about 12 or 13 with friends. My Mom wasn't too thrilled, but one time during a sleepover one of my friends and I applied red streaks to our hair. From then on the dyeing continued. I don't even remember all the colors I have been through but I did have a red phase for about 3 years straight and then after that I went to black for a couple years.

Around 20 my hair was quite damaged from the dye and the hair straightening and everything else... So I buzzed it off. YUP *bZZZZT* My long hair that was to mid back fell onto the bathroom floor... I second guessed doing this at 1/3 of the way through... but really what was I gonna do with the 1 inch hair I had in the front of my head??? (Crazy glue in some extensions?!) Once my hair was buzzed I didn't dye it again until it was about chin length. I only dyed it twice a year and was alot more careful with it. It grew in nice and thick, got passed my shoulders. And then I went through a stressful time in my life and my hair got quite thin. *UHGGGG* So I did not dye it for around 2 1/2 years. I was worried it might be too fragile and could just break off or something... Now ever since these hair issues.. I have found that I get REALLY NERVOUS when it comes to applying hair dye.

My natural color is a medium brown... but in the past couple years I have been noticing some stupid grey strands here and there. The last time I dyed my hair until two days ago was in January.. The black came and went and until last week my hair had been my natural color. I could not leave it any longer and once I found the dye I use for a sale price of 50% off what excuse did I have? Other than thinking my hair would fall off (Cause seriously that is the only reason I left it so long.)

I mixed up the the dye, had on my gloves, held the bottle near my hair... and seriously started feeling anxious... It was ridiculous. I finally had my whole head saturated.. *Including blue ear tips and for head streaks too* The whole 25 min I had to wait I was antsy and pacing thinking I felt weird things going on to my scalp.

*laugh*

Finally the timer was up I washed it out and when I realized most of my hair was staying intact I let out a breath of relief.

*RELIEVED*
Now I do not look relieved do I?

I look like I am getting my mug shot taken after a massive booze bender.

"HEY GUYS LOOK I still have my hair"

I am posting this for the next time I have to dye my hair... I may be able to resort back to this post in a time of worry.

*laugh*

Question: I have heard Henna is alot healthier and safer for your hair. I know you can get red and black. Has any of your tried black Henna? I was thinking of maybe giving it a try in the future.

No Frock on Friday for me unfortunately

Today was busy as we had shopping to do. In the morning we are waking up early and going on our out of town day trip.

So I will be thrifting in new territory!

*Woo*

But I will leave you with what I purchased for $1 this afternoon.

I seriously let out a squeak when I saw these sitting on a bottom shelf at The Salvation Army.

Garage saling can HURT you!!

Hello all! This weekend I garage saled both Sat & Sun and let me just say it was a busy weekend. My Sat was spent traveling from sale to sale all around three areas of my town. On Sunday there was a big community garage sale going on and I am sure we saw about 35 or so sales. I really didn't buy much, I don't know if I had a vintage lover just steps ahead of me or what but I was somewhat disappointed. I had imagined in my head since I would get to go to so many sales I would have a pile of vintage treasures!! *Wishful thinking*

Here Are my favorite finds of this weekend:

~*Lovely tea set*~

The set was $3.00 and is in perfect condition I don't even know if it has ever been used. I am no expert and have no clue if it's Chinese or Japanese if anybody knows please do share! I would love to know a bit more about it, especially what it says.

~*Pretty black velvet embroidered shoes*~

I have tried finding info on these lovelies (Using their description in the google search engine it kept bringing me to shoes from the 30s and 40s) I don't know much about vintage shoes (heck maybe these are not even vintage) But I do know one thing they are super cute and do not look to have been worn. Maybe tried on a few times (Once by me in the driveway of the garage sale)

~*Funky fiberglass desk lamp*~

When driving up to this sale I seen the lamp on a table. I decided not to buy a rather rusty red metal one a few weeks back and then was wondering if I had made the wrong choice. Now I know I didn't because when I asked the older Gentlemen with the white Shih tzu with a cute under bite the price. He said "A dollar?" To which I said "SURE" to which he said "This lamp is older than you" to which I said "That's the way I like them" (THANKFULLY he did not take that the wrong way) *lol* I don't want to be known as the weird garage sale chic who hits on all the senior men. *lol*

~*Swift fox / Howling Wolf*~

These are wooden toys I found for my future baby coconuts. Whenever I find something I think I will like for decorating the future coconuts room or just for them to play with I have started to purchase it. "Because who knows IF I will ever come across it again" No coconuts are on the way yet. But most likely in a year or two. By then who knows what I will have *lol* Maybe bins full of toys!! *haha*

So just when I had only a few more sales to go to... my ankle decides to do a (go to the side sort of thing) And the next thing I know I am down on the pavement amongst rocks, asphalt and dirt. Not only did I fall... It happened in front a group of people. *Sigh* After my man helped me up and I rolled up my pant leg to the knee I fell on.. (The opposite one to the STUPID ANKLE) I announced "I don't think we can get to those last sales"

My knee hurt, was stinging and bleeding a bit.. plus I was embarrassed too. We got to our vehicle (Lucky it was close as we had went to get it and moved it closer to the area we would be shopping from.) I ended up going home (Without our planned lunch) There was many hot dog and Smokey vendors all around the area selling pop, cotton candy and other yummy things. My man BBQ'ed me some hot dogs while I iced my knee and to cheer me up he bought me hot wing chips. LOL (I suppose I am a easy girl to please) SO EVERYONE make sure you are careful while garage saling. Tell your ankles "Don't fail me now!!" Heck I might have to do that next weekend.

Update: Eyeglasses (fit for a clown)

Here I am to update you on my glasses. Normally a post like this would probably not be at all humorous.. but this one just might. (Let me grab a re-fill on my coffee and then I will continue this little story.) All right here we go.

On Thurs the 10th I ordered my two sets of glasses. Shipping time was estimated a week, so I was VERY surprised when my glasses arrived on Mon the 14th *Holy heck* fast shipping.

I excitedly opened the package glass case number one was the lucky brand (black frames)tried them on and INSTANTLY loved them!!
Case number two Kam Dhillon (purple ray-ban style) I opened the case and first thought was.. "Jeaz these are a little huge" Thinking it was just my eyes I walked to the bathroom and put them on looking in the mirror. I wanted to laugh but was so confused as to "WHAT was the person that made these glasses smoking?!?" Now some people might like these.. they may fit someones style. BUT HECK NO!! Not me!!!
I knew they would have to be returned, lucky for me the business accepts returns and even pays the return shipping. (Now that is a great business)
Now I knew I had to take some pics for you guys of these glasses before I packaged them back up within hrs of receiving them only to send back for a credit to get another pair.

But first glasses Pros & Con's

Pros
-They were purple (I like purple)

Con's
- They were way wider than my actual face.
- They made my eyes look weird.
-The 4 times I put them on I felt like I could get hired to do children's Birthday party's.
- I felt like a 80s geeky secretary.
- My cheek bones do not require to be framed in glass and my ears to not need any magnifying either.

So now I wait for my account to be credited.. so I can once again pick out another pair of frames. I really wanted something Ray-Ban-ish. But I do not want to have to make yet another return.. So I am thinking I will go for some tortoiseshell rectangular frames. And hopefully come across a nice pair of vintage specs within the next 6 months to fill with my prescription. It looks as though it will be a ongoing battle. By the next year I could have 5 pairs of glasses.

I will let you know what I ended up getting when I get another knock at my door in the early a.m. from the FedEx man.

Here's a cute little video if you have some time to pass.
