Faux fur find $1.00 "WOOhh"

I am sure the title expresses my excitement on this find.

The night before I found this coat I saw a video clip on youtube of a girl wearing a vintage fur coat. Then it dawned on me.. "Hmm that is something I do not own yet" Before I went to bed I told my guy "I want a faux fur coat" He looked at me and laughed! I swear he thought I was joking! "I WASN'T"
I told him in the morning I wanted to go to a second hand store that is near our house. Most are not open on Sunday's but this one is and they have a weekly $1.00 tag sale day. In all honesty unless you go at opening most of the stuff is VERY picked over and you may only end up with one item or none.

Well we went later in the afternoon, I looked over most of the store and then remembered what my purpose was for going there was. So I headed over to the coats browsed through one full line .. nothing.. walked to the other side saw barely any (Red tag) items.. Then I see a chocolate brown coat and OoHHh it was FURRY! Now I though there is NO WAY that is going to have a red tag. IT DID and I was super surprised and oh so excited. So I wanted to share with you this little fuzzy thing.

So I bet you can't guess what else I am gonna start scouring stores for now??
More fuzzy coats.. Oh and I seen some real cute faux hats that will match this one on Etsy I plan on finding one so when the leaves fall I will have something to protect my head.

Sew in love with Elna

A couple years back I started thinking I wanted a vintage sewing machine. Being that green is my favorite color I wondered if such thing existed. I walked over to the computer and typed into the google search bar (Vintage green sewing machine) A few photos of green machines showed up but the one that caught my eye was ELNA. I thought about Elna every so often and always came to the conclusion maybe I will come across one............ in like 20 years.
About a month or so AGAIN I thought about the green wonder that is Elna I figured if I was ever gonna get a vintage machine, I better start sewing on my modern one. So that is just what I started to do. I have made a few fun things one being a owl pillow.

Last weekend I had to take a trip to a city 2 hrs from where I reside to visit the in laws. I told my guy that before we headed home I would like to stop in at the value village there and take a walk thru. (Psstt yeah right I wanted TO BUY SOMETHING!!) As we looked round I spotted something green and in the shape of a sewing machine. I thought to myself.. (Could it be...) My mind seriously told me NO! there is no way that that thing over there will be a Elna... WELL IT WAS! I just left without even telling my guy where I was headed my eyes were on that green thing and I needed to get a closer look. Once it was right in front of me I was amazed at the shape it was in. Very little scratches or marks still in it's green case. (Ahhh it was beautiful.)
My Guy came over and looked over it with me, he knew I wanted it. We seen the power cord and some other pieces but then he asked.. "WHERE IS THE PEDAL? is something missing?" Well then he had me second guessing it too. I am not no expert on sewing machines by any means.. we came to the conclusion to leave it. I was sad.. I finally found a Elna and I was gonna leave it behind. We traveled home did not make it back till about 11:30 p.m. I was tired and went to sleep. It the morning I hopped on google and started researching about Elna. Nope she doesn't come with a pedal she comes with a knee bar.. Ohhh I thought so that's what that metal contraption was for. So then I start searching how much they are to buy and I found Elna's anywhere between $180.00 - $300.00. I was really mad at myself then I just wished teleportation existed so I could get back there asap and buy her. I told my guy about all the info I had taken in. I showed him ones up for sale and the prices they go for and pouted. (Yes I am a total brat) I guess he thought it over because next thing I knew he was calling the store. Asked the man if it was still there. (OH I HEARD A YES!!) My excitement level rised a bit.
My guy put Elna on hold and before I knew it we were back on the road. Making the exact same trip we had taken the day before.. all for a green metal sewing machine that had probably not been used in decades. We got to the store and then they had troubles locating Elna. We told them it was supposed to be on hold.. FINALLY they found her in a pile of other stuff behind the tills. THANK GOD!! or I would have been livid! When we got home we plugged her in to test things out.
She was running sluggish. "OH DEAR" I thought.. hmmm maybe this was not the best idea. I googled what was going on and read it could just need to be cleaned. So we cleaned Elna and BOY did she has some lint inside her.. I bet you it was vintage lint so that makes it special, then we oiled her.. who knows when that machine had it's last oiling.


Well guess what?? After all that Elna ran amazing her stitches are beautiful and I was sooo excited and glad we made that trip back to get her. Her sticker price was $20.00 I bet they thought she was on her last legs. Now it did cost a bit in gas to go get her but it sure beats what I would get charged for shipping with a online purchase. So as you can tell by this story if you have even made it through reading it all is that I am SEWWW happy I got my Elna 18 years before I thought I would find one.

She is stamped January 15 1957 that's the day she left the production line. Who knows what she's made or who has made what with her, where she has been, how many fingers she has poked, where she has been stored or the conversations she has overheard. I am just excited shes mine now and I don't plan on getting rid of her ever.


Next week I am gonna start my first project with her, a crazy quilt! I have never made a quilt before so this should prove to be interesting. I have been collecting up vintage material and scraps for this and I am just hoping all goes well. I can't see it going that horrible because now I have my Elna.

Dress Hoarder

Hello Bloggie people! Today I decided I needed to go to on of the second hand store's I usually frequent on Saturday's. I found 3 dresses all which I liked. Since I was in a HUGE rush because the store was closing in just 30 min when I walked through the door, I just threw the dresses in my basket not trying anything on.
When I got home I decided I better see how they fit. Well I got 1 out of 3 that's better than nothing really!! *hehaha*



(Dress #1) I loved.. it's a little bright and loud but in some ways that describes me also. This dress was so close to fitting except 1 button will not do up. ONE BUTTON... uhgg This dress looks as though it's only been worn a few times is in such awsome condition I love love love it!
It came with a matching scarf which has a funky striped design just like the dress and then some flowers.

(Dress #2) There is just something about Hawaiian dresses I cannot get enough of. I found this one VERY intriguing. I have 2 vintage Hawaiian dresses and they are both sort of the same style.. this one was quite different I noticed because it has a sort of Mermaid tail thing going on which I found to be simply GREAT. Well I was quite miffed when I realized my BUTT is to fat for the dress! *lol* so since I can get it on my legs but not past my bottom I don't think it will be appropriate to wear.. in fact it could just get me arrested!

(Dress #3) WAHOO!! It fits and looks very cute on I think! All the buttons do up and it fits over my lady lumps!! woohoo! (Yes I was super excited) I will have to show you this dress on in a post sometime. It has a matching belt & a cute little tie around the neck.
Best of all it will not wrinkle and the colors will go with so many accessories.

The reason I went to the store a day early was because I am going on a day trip out of town tomorrow. I plan on stopping at a few Salvation army thrifts and a really sweet vintage shop I found online. HOPEFULLY I will find something lovely for myself at the vintage store.. MAYBE another dress?!

I did my nails for the occasion!

Things on my cluttered dresser

Well are you anything like me and just have too much stuff you like to look at?

I recently brought this dresser in my bedroom so I would have more room for clothes. "OH YAY" my little head said.. MORE room to display fun stuff.

I am still organizing this area.. I have a mirror that is to be hung behind the dresser. Hopefully I will get that done soon. In the meantime random vintage thing's keep making it their home. Please tell me I am not the only one?!

I found that nifty yellow circle tray that everything is on at a garage sale a few weeks ago for a 1.50 it's hand painted and I adore it.

The fake flowers in the vase were purchased to make flower hair clips.. still have not got around to that. *Sideways glance* I will though sooner or later. I keep my bobby pins in the Murano glass bamboo vase & my hair elastics in the green ceramic reed weave looking container.
I have a love for shamrocks and that would be why I have a shamrock plant thrown in the mix. It seems as though the deer like to graze there on summer nights & listen to the owls hoot and cats meow.

I just picked up that cute little fabric pear this weekend for .25 cents I surely could not leave it at the store to catch dust fall on the floor and get kicked all over. I fear for my little brass mice because you never know when that Siamese cat is gonna get hunger pangs.

And that black bead necklace on the lover part of the tray.. yes I know there is two, well the top one. That one reminds me of olives and whenever I think about wearing it I get a urge to go to the supermarket and pick up a can. I swear I have a pickle olive addiction and I don't think it's getting any better.

A cup of WHAT?! *Yuck*

Hello fellow bloggers let this story be a warning to you so you will never have what happened to me happen to you while thrifting.
On Friday I decided to do some thrifting just a few stores so that I would save myself some time on Saturday. (My main shopping day)
First store which has a great deal (Five dollars for grocery store sized bag of clothes) I ended up finding some real nice clothes. After I was done there I headed to the second shop I like to frequent. They have a top floor and a bottom, I went to the downstairs first which holds electronics, furniture, outdoors stuff and a side room of bedding & linens & bathroom accessories. Well I ended up fining a garden hose nozzle attachment for watering the flowers for 50 cents and that was about it in the one big room. I then decided to go look in the linen room after finding a cute rose pattern pillow case I looked through the curtains and blankets which then brings me to the corner where the accessories are. I scan the shelf.. I see a nice vintage counter mirror, a shell soap dish, a really neat looking vintage bottle with a nice design Oh whats that?? ..
So there is this cup with molded flowers on it a pearly glaze I am thinking its kind of nice and decide to take a closer look maybe find the price. So I grab the cup and thinking the price would be on the bottom I turn it to the side. "OMG WHAT is that" (something has poured out of the cup and got on my hand..) Instantly I smell a HORRIFIC smell I freaked!! Put the cup down and ran into the stores back room looking for a employee. I see one of the men that works there, I say in a frantic tone "I need a sink and some soap I spilled something on me I don't know what it is but it stinks" (Now in the beginning I think the guy was thinking I was some crazy broad.) I mean they see me there alot but I usually just shop and leave.. I don't usually barge into backrooms yelling. So the employee tells me to follow him then asks (While we are walking) "Where is the container that has stuff in it?" I am still horrified and reply "I will show you AFTER I WASH MY HANDS.. I don't know what this is but I want it off NOW!!" We get to the sink he hands me some dawn dish soap and a towel. I turn on the water wash my hands once (Stop think) Nope the water wasn't hot enough I am gonna do it again. I wash my hands once more for at least two minutes. I am shaking and really wondering what that stuff was. Okay so hands are probably really clean.. but me being a complete germaphobe not so much. I then being less frantic have time to think of what that smell is it was so strong it was almost chemical-ish which is why I was so frazzled. Then I though OH MY GOSH that kind of smells like urine.. OLD urine outhouse-ish urine. (My stomach turns at the thought.) I see the employee and tell him I will show him where the blasted cup is. While walking I tell him that is smells so bad I think someone might have peed in this cup and put it back on the shelf. (Yes I know DISGUSTING) So we get to the door of the linen room. (OH HECK does it smell and we were not even inside. The whole room smells horrible I point for him to go to the right and we get to the shelf I point to the cup. He picks it up with the most disgusted look on his face and says: "I think you are right that is exactly what someone has done." He apologized saying "I am so sorry this happened" I replied with "It's okay it's not your fault" I then see him go grab bottles of cleaners to obviously try and deal with the situation. I head upstairs and I couldn't even concentrate!! I felt so Gross I just wanted to go home and wash my hands AGAIN!! I swear in total I washed my hands about 6 times after this incedent and showered once. I told my Mom what happened and told her that I still have the heebie jeebies. She told me to put Listerine on my hands because it kills 99.9 percent of germs!! *LOL* Did I do it?? Of course desperate times call for desperate measures. I smelled minty for the rest of the evening also.
So all of you lets make this a rule in thrifting. When grabbing any sort of thing that could hold liquid.. LOOK INSIDE before checking for a price or turning it over. Because I surely cannot be the only person this has ever happened too, and I would not ever want anyone else getting anything nasty spilled on them.

Last weekends finds

I figured I better post some of my finds from lastweek before I go out and scour around at yard sales tommorow. This means if I am smart I will go to bed early tonight. (*Never happens*) I am usually half asleep when I start my Saturday morning treasure hunting.

I found this darling doll for $1.00 I don't know much about vintage dolls but I do know shes cute and has amazing eyelashes.

I love this dish just looking at it makes me smile because its so weird. Plus pineapples are neat.. Don't ya think?
My best find of the weekend was the (Time Life - Art of Sewing)Book Set
I walked into a thrift store and this book's design caught my eye.

I walked over only to realize there was MANY books all with a different textured pattern cover. I had no clue what they were about and then I realized they were all about sewing, design, patterns, how to's and so much more! I didn't see a price and was worried that when I asked it would be quite high for the set. But they told me 1.00$ PER BOOK!!! ahhhh I was extatic! "Okay I will take them" .. And then they were mine. I hope to learn alot from these I don't know much about sewing but have been wanting to learn. I can do some basic stuff but that is it. I am striving to at some point be able to make dresses. *Wish me luck!* *lol*



Well I am off to enoy some pizza (Even though I shouldn't) and watch a movie.

Sweet yellow Sunbeam

Well I surely never thought I would find a vintage sunbeam at a thrift store I always though when the time came I would have to shell out the $80.00 or more and buy one from E-bay or a expensive shop. Thank goodness I was wrong! I got my yellow mixer on Saturday for a grand total of $20.00 no tax even.

Of course I needed to test it our right away! What else would there be to do? So I had to think of what I wanted to make. Cookies? Squares? Cake? Okay so I settled on a Angel food cake and tested the mixer out. It works great or so I think I don't really know all that much about them. It didn't smoke or explode so I am assuming everything is in good working order. I made yellow icing for my cake and of course decorated it on a owl cutting board I got from a free box at a garage sale.

Now hopefully I don't find another one.. or I will be in a pickle because I surely will not leave it there. *hehe*
